One Big Fight

Ateneo lost to UST: 76 to 74...UST is Season 69 Champ

Of course, I am heartbroken. The game went into overtime and we could've had it, if not for the wrong judgement on the final play: going to JC Intal.

If you've got 12 seconds to the game end and the opponent is up by a point, don't expect good low-post plays. Get your best jump-shots from your best shooters...they would've been better off with Chris Tiu, Jai Reyes or Mr. Salamat taking the shot.

JC Intal's arrogance gets to me. Sure you're pretty good and you can dunk. But must you be an ass about it? Rico Villanueva got away with the championship because of the likes of Fonacier, Alvarez, Gonzales, not to mention Tenorio, backing him up. Sooner or later, the thing you've most been proud of will be taken from you.

But what gets to me more is the reaction of officemates from LA SALLE. They were cheering when UST won and mocked me, since my school lost. Yeah Dude, UST won...and your school didn't even get to play.

And how they can be so arrogant about it. Dude, you just don't get it. You wouldn't even have made it to the finals if you didn't cheat. You wouldn't even make it past Adamson if you didn't buy players. You wouldn't even have the privelege of playing against UST if not for the fake students.

You have absolutely no right to mock me, my school, or our players.

Growing up, I always thought UST was a good team. They had a 5-yr sweep during my adolescent years. My uncle, who is a big PBA fan used to encourage me and my cousins to play basketball and get into the school varsities...in particular UST. I used to play for the Milo tournaments, but I never really dreamt of becoming a PBA player.

From Game 1, I knew Ateneo was against a good team. UST wasn't a noisy team, but most of UST shots were set gameplays, which meant they played with more science. The Ateneo players had more art...maarte...showman dunkshots, drawing fouls through dramatics, glamorous three point shots.

Science is more dependable than cosmetics.

But they fought a good fight. Not giving in too early. Unlike Game 2, where they lost by 12 points.

That ought to teach our school humility. The topseeded school defeated by an un-seeded rookie UST Team.

As for the La Salle fans, I don't know what to do with them. Nakikisali pa sa game ng ibang tao. Sus!

Hi there! I chanced in your blog and was surprised to read your post. I'm an alumna of UST. I was in UST when they had their 4-year-winning streak (so I knew what you mentioned in your blog). Anyway, as the Tigers and Eagles went in the championship round of the UAAP, I heard so many nasty things from Ateneans (because I was, of course, rooting for UST). Your comments on this post was the nicest, and most civil one I've come across. Thanks! =)
